Abortion：A serious challenge of Morality
Nowadays abortion seems to be more and more common. However, is abortion just an issue about woman’s right? Absolutely not! Abortion is not only an issue about woman’s right, but also a serious challenge of morality. September is so-called “a month of abortion” in Taiwan. Many teenage girls become pregnant accidentally during the summer vacation, so whether they should abort or not become a tough choice for these girls. Basicly, I do not support woman to abort their little baby at will, only if they do have a careful consideration. They still have the right to decide whether to keep the child or not.
In a news report of Yahoo news online, it mentioned that an Australian state, Victoria, was about to pass an abortion bill which give woman the sole choice of whether to terminate or proceed with the pregnancy. Currently, woman there can abort only when doctor thinks pregnancy would harm the health of the mother. Another report of BBC radio said that one in four UK women have had a termination and the number is on the rise. The report also investigated people’s views about young girls’ pregnancy. Both reports have triggered great controversies.
Those anti-abortion group protest against the bill, because they think abortion is equal to murder. But on the other side, does woman have no rights to abort if she does not want to have a child? Does woman who get pregnant unexpectedly have to abort covertly?
Abortion does not mean to murder a little life at will, but a result of mature thinking. An embryo is also a precious life certainly; however, if the mother could not afford to keep a child and make her child grow up in a good environment, abortion might be the best option for her.
Instead of feeling regret to have a baby, it is much better to have a correct idea about sex, especially for those juveniles. Parents should tell them the serious consequence after having sex, and teach them to use condoms to prevent from pregnancy.
